Rural Landcare

Supporting and engaging farmers and rural Landcarers.

Farming in the ACT Region

More than 15% of ACT’s land is used for agricultural production. Rural lands in the ACT and Region are important for productivity and feeding the Bush Capital and the landscape, viewscape and heritage values they provide to the ACT.
Landcare ACT works with member organisations, the ACT Rural Landholders’ Association and the Catchment Groups to support farmers, industry and community organisations to improve and sustain rural landscapes.

Smart Farms

Landcare ACT is currently delivering two grants as part of the Smart Farms Small Grants program funded through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

The grants aim to build community capacity to sustainably manage natural resources including reducing adverse impacts and improving the condition of soils, water, vegetation and on-farm biodiversity.

The Landcare ACT Smart Farms grants support engagement with farmers and Landcarers around:

  • resilience and sustainability in a changing climate
  • biosecurity and weeds management
  • stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing workshops and trials
  • bringing new knowledge to build local capacity.

Virtual Farm Tours

Landcare ACT ACT's Smart Farms program is taking people on virtual tours of the ACT Region’s farms and bringing farmers and landowners together to improve biosecurity and share knowledge.

The series of seven virtual farm tours explore regenerative agriculture, diversification and showcase the work of Landcare Champions. The series was produced by Landcare ACT and members, with funding from the Commonwealth Government Landcare Programme Smart Farms Small Grants Program.

Young Farmers Network

Landcare ACT is responding to an identified gap in support for younger generation of farmers in the ACT. We are establishing a network to enable easier information sharing and connections between young farmers in the ACT.

National Landcare Farming Program

Landcare ACT supports ACT landholders to engage in the Landcare Farming Program, coordinated by Landcare Australia and National Landcare Network. Farmers have participated in a Round Table to identify priorities for regenerative agriculture in the region and Carbon Farming and Natural Capital Accounting workshops.

We acknowledge the Ngunawal people, who are the Traditional Custodians of this country, and all First Nations people and their continuing connection to land, waters and community.
We pay respect to elders past, present and emerging.
